ABOUT THE BAKER AND HIS WIFE

Born in Toronto, Doug Lawrence is a graduate of George Brown College in Culinary Management.  He is a member of the American Bread Bakers Guild and has studied under Jeff Hamelman of King Arthur Flour in Vermont.  Doug worked alongside Alan Scott to build wood-fired bake ovens in British Columbia and New Mexico before deciding to build his own oven in Cobourg at MILLSTONE BREAD.

Also born in Toronto, Jill Lawrence is a Marketing Manager who took a package from Bell Canada to pursue her dream of operating a family run bakery.  We moved to the Northumberland Hills in 1992 in order to raise our children in a rural life style.  Together we bring 20 years of hospitality and food service experience to MILLSTONE BREAD.

At MILLSTONE BREAD we want to offer simply good bread for you to share with those who matter most to you.  After much research and travel we have developed recipes and techniques that we will prepare, bake and sell with great pride.  Our wood-fired bake oven and leavening techniques are based on old world tradition and our ingredients are purchased as close to home as possible to ensure the highest quality and freshness. 

We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting such great people whom, more than customer are now like friends and family.  You all make the grueling hours very worthwhile.  We always look forward to seeing you!
